NOT SO FAST | NSF

We’re definitely not pulling any “fast ones” with the opening of NOT SO FAST | NSF. As part of the summer exhibition series at the York Quay Centre, this show features artwork by seven Indigenous artists from across Canada, and one from Hawaii. Thinking through the kind of value that’s measured in terms of speed and efficiency, I’ve brought together artwork by Christian Chapman, Vanessa Dion Fletcher, Bev Koski, Jean Marshall, Luke Parnell, Maika’i Tubbs, and Tania Willard as their work suggests different kinds of value. In some artwork, these artists re-purpose consumer goods, and others use customary materials to reconsider time invested in the knowledge of place. Together they create a dialogue that uncovers stories of colonial history. Most exciting to me is that all the artists will be in residence for the installation and the opening reception.

The exhibition runs until September 23, 2012.
