The Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards (APCMA) showcases the best in Aboriginal music in North America. Planet IndigenUS, the world’s biggest celebration of global contemporary Indigenous culture, is pleased to host many of the APCMA 2012 nominees at this year’s festival. The 2012 nominees have just been announced, and many of the nominees are still to perform at Planet IndigenUS:
Blues-rocker Derek Miller, up for Best Blues CD, not only hosts a Robbie Robertson Tribute on Friday, Aug. 17, but is also the subject of the documentary Music is the Medicine, screening Thursday, Aug. 16 and featuring a talkback with Mr. Miller himself after the film
Janet Panic, also a part of the Robbie Robertson Tribute on Friday, Aug. 17, was nominated for Best Folk / Acoustic CD
Winnipeg’s Most, who host a hip hop party on Friday, Aug. 17, are up for Best Music Video
The Métis Fiddler Quartet’s Northwest Voyage, which was released in April with a Harbourfront Centre concert, was nominated for Best Fiddle CD, and will be performing on Saturday, Aug. 18
Cellist Cris Derksen, nominated for Best Music Video will perform on Friday, Aug. 18
Inuit throat-singer Tanya Tagaq, who participates in Saturday, Aug. 18’s Red Hot Late Night is up for Aboriginal Female Entertainer of the Year
Up-and-coming trip-hop-meets-eclectic-soul singer IsKwé, who warms up the WestJet Stage on Saturday, Aug. 18, is up for Single of the Year
Pop-rock band Indian City, who appear as part of our Closing Ceremonies on Sunday, Aug. 19, are nominated seven awards including Best New Artist, Best Duo Or Group, Best Pop CD and Aboriginal Songwriter of the Year.
Hoop-dance champion and musician Dallas Arcand participated in the festival’s Opening Spectacle was nominated for Best Flute CD, Best Instrumental CD and Best Album Cover Design
