Under the helm of artistic director Christopher House, Toronto Dance Theatre (TDT) has had – and continues to have – a profound influence on the development of dance in Canada. It’s only fitting, then, that House would commission Toronto-based independent dance artist Heidi Strauss to choreograph Everyday Anthems, the latest work in TDT’s impressive repertoire.
As a foundation for the choreography, Strauss uses the personal stories of the TDT dancers to explore pivotal life moments, resulting in an intensely physical celebration of the present, and an exploration of the unknown terrain that lies ahead.
“Sometimes you have to put your chips behind an artist . . . and spin the wheel,” says Tina Rasmussen. “And I put all of my chips there. I think [Strauss] is pretty exciting.”
