Hailed as the “guru of Persian cooking”, Iranian-American chef Najmieh Batmanglij will be demonstrating her cooking skills at our very own Lakeside Terrace at this year’s Tirgan festival.
Najmieh Batmanglij has spent the past 30 years cooking, travelling, and adapting authentic Persian recipes to tastes and techniques in the West. Batmanglij learned to cook in Vence, France, after she was exiled from Iran during the Iranian Revolution. In France, Batmanglij translated her mother’s recipes and published her first cookbook called Ma Cuisine D’Iran. Later on, Batmanglij went on to write her most celebrated book Food Of Life.
Join us at the Tirgan festival as Najmieh Batmanglij showcases her talented cooking and demonstrates her classic, seasonal Persian dishes, such as green bites (doymaj) and saffron-flavoured Persian rice, with its golden crust (tah-diq) served with an eggplant braise (khoresh-e bademjan). She will also share the secrets of using saffron and rose water in Persian cooking.
