Have a swinging good time on the shores of Lake Ontario this Summer

This isn’t a ballroom. This is Toronto’s waterfront.
-Toronto Star

For the past three summer seasons patrons have been making our site their Thursday evening destination. Dancing on the Pier is an innovative weekly programme that transforms the waterfront into an all-inclusive dancefloor where dancers of all ages — and skill levels — can groove solo (or with a special someone) to the sounds of a live band.

This season we’ll be grooving to the rhythms of Luisito Orbegoso, one of the most in-demand percussionists in Toronto, Sean Bellaviti and Dancing on the Pier staple, the Toronto All-Star Big Band. They’ll be presenting a series of themed evening that range from an exploration of Cuban dance music to a blending of sounds from Afro Colombian Folklore with Jazz. If you don’t know how to dance, it’s no problem. Before getting into the real deal dance portion of the evening, host Martin Samuels — who has been teaching dance for 35 years — gives a quick lesson to anyone who wants it.

Dancing on the Pier is a must for all Torontonians. Come and enjoy a great time alongside Lake Ontario every Thursday starting June 26th and running until September 4th. Want a better idea of what to expect? Check out our Harbourfront Centre TV coverage of last year’s opening night.

Want even more dance? Join us every Friday starting June 27th for DJ Deep Fried Fridays, which is back for a second season. We pair Toronto’s hottest DJs with some of the most decadent deep fried, such as week one’s Uproot Andy, who will be spinning bassy dance floor gems while you snack on Mr. Spinner’s Cassava Poutine — it’s a sensory/taste overload. Perfect way to start your weekend off on the right note.

If you like to move your body, Harbourfront Centre is the place to be this season.
