It’s been more than two years since the 509 streetcar glided past our site. The light rail vehicles that run between Union Station and the Exhibition were replaced by buses in July 2012 as construction began on and around Queens Quay West. This was part of a revitalization project for Toronto’s waterfront. The good news is that we’ve just caught a glimpse of the streetcar’s return! Shiny new TTC shelters are popping up along Queens Quay, right by Harbourfront Centre.
According to Waterfront Toronto, which issues weekly construction updates, we’ll see streetcars being tested on the refurbished tracks as early as October 6. Service is scheduled to resume on October 12.
