Lunar New Year celebrations started this week across the city, and it’s officially the Year of the Monkey! Monkeys are known for being clever, mischievous and playful. Have you seen the LunarFest monkeys around town?
These curious primates arrived in Toronto a few weeks before the festivities and have been touring the town, seeing our city’s best sights. They’ve climbed up high (all the way up the C.N. Tower) and made it to our iconic “Toronto” sign at city hall.
Their final destination? Harbourfront Centre, for LunarFest!
From February 20 to 21, the monkeys will be part of two major interactive installations called “Climbing to the Top” and “Our Footprints.” Hundreds of LunarFest monkeys will be on site to greet visitors and show them the fun world of being one of the most intelligent creatures on earth. You can play with them, pose with them and even adopt them as a special LunarFest keepsake. Make sure to post your photos and follow the monkeys’ adventures using the hashtag #LunarFestPet.
There are lots of ways to celebrate the Lunar New Year at Harbourfront Centre! After getting your photos with a LunarFest monkey, check out performances including a marionette lion dance by Chin Fei Feng Marionette Theatre Troupe or The Drumming Dance, which features six types of drum dances from various traditions. And don’t forget to stop by the Lunar Café for delicious snacks.
Happy New Year!
