Today we join with artists, arts workers, and audiences all over the world to celebrate theatre for young people. At HarbourKIDS, we see children as sovereign consumers of culture. We’re not “building the audiences of tomorrow”. Kids are OUR audience TODAY. And while HarbourKIDS is a multi-disciplinary programme, the performing arts are a hugely important part of what we do.
Turn off the TV! Put down your tablet! HarbourKIDS: Skating Festival, presented by RBC Play Hockey, is happening Feb. 16-17 and it’s packed with spectacular wintry activities to keep the entire family entertained.
Cow Over Moon Children’s Theatre is dedicated to creating and producing quality, accessible theatre productions for children and families. Founded in 1995 by a group of Grade 11 and 12 students at Cawthra Park Secondary School in Mississauga, the company now employs a group of 12 theatre practitioners to create their annual holiday show.
Zack Werner’s Idol School is taking the stage during the HarbourKIDS: Thanksgiving festival this Monday. Zack, who was Canadian Idol’s answer to Simon Cowell (one of the hosts of American Idol), definitely has an eye (and ear) for talent. He not only spotted Carly Rae Jepsen (who was third place in the fifth season of Canadian Idol) and Down With Webster, but was also instrumental in the development of Esthero and The Philosopher Kings (just to name a few).
I can’t think of a better way to have spent the long weekend than kicking off Harbourfront Centre’s first summer festival – HarbourKIDS: The Toronto International Circus Festival. With beautiful weather all weekend long, it was easy to enjoy the comical buskers, talented circus performers, exciting activities and delicious food.
A school designed to teach kids and adults alike the art of circus performance! The Circus Academy in Toronto is just the place if you ever wanted to be part of the circus. They teach a magnitude of different performances and will bring amazement and joy to everyone who comes to watch. The Circus Academy is the official training school of Zero Gravity Circus, co-producers of the HarbourKIDS: The Toronto International Circus Festival. They’re a circus production house and creative entertainment agency, who have performed around the world.
Join Morro and Jasp, sister clowns, for their family friendly cooking show, Go Bake Yourself. What to expect? Morro insists it’s going to be a competition but Jasp completely disagrees as she hopes to earn a man’s heart through cooking.
Jasp and Morro are the 2012 Dora Award Winner for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble and Lauren Gillett from Theatromania insists this show will be “a guaranteed recipe for fun”.
Street Dance Academy will be presenting here at Harbourfront Centre, showcasing their best performance routines as a part of our HarbourKIDS Skating Festival. The Street Dance Canada Showcase will not only be an integral part of the festivities but it is also the qualifier for the World Street Dance Championships, so you can expect to be captivated by moves that have been practiced day in and day out by dedicated youngsters with huge hopes.
It was an intense ( yet fun) auditioning process, but LEGOLAND Discovery Centre named Graeme Dymond as the Brick Factor winner ! Graeme will become the attraction’s LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Master Model Builder.
Che Marville of The Children’s Own Media Museum recently spoke to our blog about the value of arts programming for children. The following is what she wanted to share with our readers: At the Children’s Own Media Museum (COMM) we believe the greatest generation is here today and growing up fast. Our mission is to give children the tools, inspiration …
