Maricel Presilla brings Latin “sabor” to Harbourfront Centre

Chef and historian Maricel Presilla is the first Latin American woman invited as a guest chef at the White House. It’s not surprising. Maricel, who holds a doctorate in medieval Spanish history from New York University, is widely regarded as the “Queen of Latin Cooking.”

This weekend, we are over-run with the best and brightest culinary talents at the World Café, Lake View Market and this weekend-only, the Red Hot Market!  A much-anticipated event, The Red Hot Market is our signature hot sauce market featuring 21 of the spiciest vendors from around the city. We’ve got something for everyone this weekend, so have a look out for Pi-Tom’s Thai Cuisine at the World Café, Lake View Market vendor Mixtura Latina, multiple snack vendors in the new Hot & Spicy Snack Tents, as well as our very own Farmer’s Market!

Ursa’s top chef takes on foraging!

Are you sick of eating the same boring meals over and over again? Come down to the Hot & Spicy Food Festival on Saturday, August 31 to watch the Foraging by Nature food demonstration to learn how you can add some new flavours to your cooking!

This will be an interesting presentation, as the special guest leading this demonstration is chef Jacob Sharkey Pearce. He will be using his unique style to create a dish using foraged ingredients.

Fortune Cooking Festival Re-cap

With “food” being the recurring theme in Toronto this weekend, Harbourfront Centre joined full force with “Fortune Cooking,” a Pan-Asian festival celebrating the tastes and flavours of Asia with a major emphasis on tea.

We kicked things off on Friday, Aug. 9, with a Ramen Runoff, bringing in large crowds to find out who rules the yummiest ramen in town. Six participating chefs competed with their best recipes as festival revelers got to taste and vote for their favourite flavour combinations. Winners included Chef Vanessa Yeung (Most Original), Chef Roy Takahashi (Best Noodles and Broth), and Chef Shin Aoyama (Best Overall).

We know what you’re probably thinking: How hot can a piece of watermelon-flavoured candy really be? Candy is for kids, right? Maybe I’ll have my five year-old daughter try it, too. Wrong. That would be a terrible idea. This is the world’s hottest candy. Period. There should be a skull and crossbones label on the packaging.
