Toronto’s Rave Movement and community was the largest and arguably most vibrant in North America for many years. Though the crowds and events dwindled for a period in the mid-late 2000s, Toronto talent grew stronger (and more international in reach), promoters came to collaborate more, and a whole new set of scenes emerged in this city, especially as electronic music exploded around the globe. On Saturday July 13, 2013 – as part of Harbourfront Centre’s popular SoundClash Festival – DJ and journalist Denise Benson hosted two lively discussions: The Toronto Rave Movement: The History, followed by The Toronto Rave Movement: The Legacy.

KASHKA is the ongoing “folkpoptronica” project of Kat Burns, a musician and songwriter based in Toronto. Originally launched to catch the songs that didn’t fit under the orchestral-folk-pop umbrella of her former band, Forest City Lovers, the project has since grown legs and begun to power walk; with arms up and a determined look across her face.
Blending post-punk, shoegaze and electronic, Toronto’s Program has just released their first official album in March 2013. Currently, Program is working on their full-length album which has hopes to be released in the fall 2013.
