We welcome back Peter Boross-Harmer as our resident chess Master instructor. Peter has been playing chess for over 30 years and continues to pursue a competitive chess career.

Circus

The magic of the circus under the big top! Circus camp includes juggling, stilt walking, acrobatics, highwire, mini trampoline, clowning, and Hip Hop. Equipment is specially designed with youth and safety in mind. Circus professionals work with camp counsellors to maximize safety. Each 2 week session wraps with a complete circus performance with music and costumes.

This camp is coordinated by Cirque du Soleil social instructor/trainer Marsha Kennington. Her staff of qualified circus professionals allow groups and individuals to move at their own pace in accordance with age and ability.

Counsellor-in-Training

Ready to cultivate your leadership skills? Join our Counsellor-in-Training (CIT) programme!

The CIT programme combines observation and practice through placement in a real camp setting. CIT workshops focus on supervision, communication, cooperative games, initiative tasks, anti-bullying, camper management and discussion of significant topics. CITs personalize their leadership style while promoting team-building and friendships. CITs select their placements of interest and shadow a working counsellor in a real camp setting, then begin their own programme planning and interaction with campers - as a leader!

CIT graduates of this certificate programme who are at least 16 years of age by the first day of camp in 2009 will be offered an interview for a Harbourfront Centre Summer Camps counsellor position.

Creating Dance

National Ballet of CanadaCome dance with The National Ballet of Canada! This programme is designed to develop your child's creative side through dance and music. Participants, grouped by age and ability, create an original dance performance set to their own musical compositions. Campers are guided by a professional choreographer/dancer, a composer/musician and are supervised by trained camp staff. No previous dance experience is required; only a desire to have fun, to be creative and to dance!

Our innovative, hands-on introduction to the creation of images using our new iMac lab will give campers the opportunity to experiment with contemporary digital photography. Campers will have the opportunity to create and edit digital photographs by working on such projects as spoof advertising campaigns, digital photo collages, and self portrait photo projects.

Golf

Waterside Sports ClubNovice and beginner golfers learn the basics of golf and develop their skills in the comfort of the air conditioned golf facility at the Waterside Golf Dome. Campers, grouped by age and ability, are instructed in the rules and etiquette of golf as well as learning fundamentals such as proper grip, stance and swing while developing chipping, putting and driving skills. The Waterside Golf Dome provides 26 hitting mats and a short game area featuring a six hole putting course as well as a large sand bunker. Instruction from a golf pro experienced with junior clinics leads the campers who are also supervised by trained counsellors. Limited enrollment ensures low camper-to-staff ratios and quality instruction. Tournaments and active games round out the week plus a trip to a real golf course to hone their skills! Campers must supply their own golf clubs. A limited number of junior clubs are available for use on a first come, first serve basis. Please call to reserve your set.

Skills learned in this "great outdoors" camp will be put to the test during a fully supervised overnight camping excursion on the Toronto Islands! Sailing – Bronze Sail

Participants must have White Sail III
This four-week program builds on and refines skills learned in the White Sail programme. This advanced programme is taught to the Canadian Yachting Association Bronze Sail IV and V standards, including the use of spinnaker and trapeze. Advanced sail theory, trim techniques and racing are introduced. Participants must have obtained the White Sail III certification to enroll. Please fax a copy of White Sail III to the camp office. All the world's a stage! Created for campers who love being in the spotlight, TheatreKids explores the world of theatre in a relaxed, hands-on environment. Working together with the Director, campers learn aspects of performance and theatre production while rehearsing and preparing for their own show, to be presented to family members and friends at the end of the session! Special guests are brought in when available to showcase aspects of drama or stage production. No agents or casting calls necessary, just lots of fun!
