With a focus on fitness, adventure and leadership, this camp is designed for our older, thrill-seeking campers. Experience the magic of residential camping as we head north to Camp Tamarack for an all-inclusive, action packed 3 days and 2 nights. Campers participate in dozens of activities including wakeboarding, waterskiing, sailing and kayaking, plus fine arts, an adventure course, golf and tennis all under the supervision of qualified and certified instructors. This junior camp programme is specifically tailored for the younger camper. Our highly qualified and experienced staff foster a safe and nurturing environment for first-time campers, and encourage new friendships, camper enrichment, creativity and self-expression. Small groups offer a 6:1 camper-tocounsellor ratio, ensuring safe supervision and individual attention. The exemplary staff is selected based on enthusiasm, prior experience and capacity to supervise our youngest campers.

In partnership with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, Habourfront Centre is offering campers an exciting opportunity to learn about Canadian football from current CFL players and legends of the game. In a friendly, team-oriented environment, campers learn fundamental skills, sportsmanship and develop personal confidence while participating in non-equipment games and drills. Grouped by age and ability, campers interact with the players and legends and participate in a friendly tournament with the chance to be crowned Grey Cup champions!

Campers, grouped by age, explore Toronto's protected inner harbour and the amazing lagoons of the Toronto Islands while learning paddling skills, water safety and environmental awareness. Voyageur games and leadership skills are also taught, along with lessons on the importance of the canoe in Canadian history. Most of our time is spent on the water. (weather permitting).

Chess enthusiasts, from beginner to advanced, enjoy unparalleled instruction from our Master instructor. Campers learn to "see" the chessboard as tournament professionals and are taught elementary techniques, such as how to open a game, defend a piece, mate, avoid stalemate and more!
We welcome back Peter Boross-Harmer as our resident chess Master instructor. Peter has been playing chess for over 30 years and continues to pursue a competitive chess career.

The magic of the circus under the big top! Circus camp includes juggling, stilt walking, acrobatics, highwire, mini trampoline, clowning, and Hip Hop. Equipment is specially designed with youth and safety in mind. Circus professionals work with camp counsellors to maximize safety. Each 2 week session wraps with a complete circus performance with music and costumes.
This camp is coordinated by Cirque du Soleil social instructor/trainer Marsha Kennington. Her staff of qualified circus professionals allow groups and individuals to move at their own pace in accordance with age and ability.

Ready to cultivate your leadership skills? Join our Counsellor-in-Training (CIT) programme!
The CIT programme combines observation and practice through placement in a real camp setting. CIT workshops focus on supervision, communication, cooperative games, initiative tasks, anti-bullying, camper management and discussion of significant topics. CITs personalize their leadership style while promoting team-building and friendships. CITs select their placements of interest and shadow a working counsellor in a real camp setting, then begin their own programme planning and interaction with campers - as a leader!
CIT graduates of this certificate programme who are at least 16 years of age by the first day of camp in 2009 will be offered an interview for a Harbourfront Centre Summer Camps counsellor position.
Please note: Placements are assigned based upon availability and CIT suitability (not available for Marine, Tennis or Golf camps).

Come dance with The National Ballet of Canada! This programme is designed to develop your child's creative side through dance and music. Participants, grouped by age and ability, create an original dance performance set to their own musical compositions. Campers are guided by a professional choreographer/dancer, a composer/musician and are supervised by trained camp staff. No previous dance experience is required; only a desire to have fun, to be creative and to dance!

Our innovative, hands-on introduction to the creation of images using our new iMac lab will give campers the opportunity to experiment with contemporary digital photography. Campers learn creative vision and composition and shooting technique through the lens of our Canon Power Shots camera (provided). Campers will have the opportunity to create and edit digital photographs by working on such projects as spoof advertising campaigns, digital photo collages, and self portrait photo projects.

Under the guidance of our experienced staff, campers learn about the world of fashion. Fundamentals of design provide the basis for campers to create sketches, illustrate, design and execute projects from start to finish. Global Hip Hop culture is possibly the most influential artist movement in the world. In this energetic camp, campers will have the opportunity to explore the roots and elements of Hip Hop, participate in performing arts activities, including choreography/movement and performance techniques, while they discover Hip Hop's contemporary impact and its ability to empower social and self-expression.

Novice and beginner golfers learn the basics of golf and develop their skills in the comfort of the air conditioned golf facility at the Waterside Golf Dome. Campers, grouped by age and ability, are instructed in the rules and etiquette of golf as well as learning fundamentals such as proper grip, stance and swing while developing chipping, putting and driving skills. The Waterside Golf Dome provides 26 hitting mats and a short game area featuring a six hole putting course as well as a large sand bunker. Instruction from a golf pro experienced with junior clinics leads the campers who are also supervised by trained counsellors. Limited enrollment ensures low camper-to-staff ratios and quality instruction. Tournaments and active games round out the week plus a trip to a real golf course to hone their skills! Campers must supply their own golf clubs. A limited number of junior clubs are available for use on a first come, first serve basis. Please call to reserve your set.

Younger campers enjoy basic sports instruction in a specifically designed environment. Campers learn while playing a variety of sports such as basketball, lacrosse, volleyball, soccer, and floor hockey, as well as games that encourage coordination, conditioning and participation. Campers are grouped by age into teams of eight per counsellor with emphasis on basic skills and elements of good sportsmanship.

Calling all aspiring writers, junior authors and avid readers! Explore the wonderful world of literature with experienced camp staff and local authors. Campers read and discuss the material then participate in creative writing workshops. This exciting programme provides loads of outdoor fun and activities for young campers. Traditional canoeing skills are taught by our experienced staff in the safe, protected waters of our site, including the
Pond at York Quay Centre. Campers also use 24 and 36 foot Voyageur canoes to re-enact great moments from canoeing history! Crafts, games, camping skills and environmental awareness are also included in this week-long programme.

Junior musicians are put through an inspirational, educational and intensive 2 weeks. Our camp staff provides the guidance, development, and encouragement that all new bands need for creative collaboration. Pop or punk, metal or blues, Music Camp provides essential technical training and the fundamentals necessary for success: having fun!

Skills learned in this "great outdoors" camp will be put to the test during a fully supervised overnight camping excursion on the Toronto Islands! Canoeing, kayaking, water and campsite safety, fire building, outdoor cooking, map and compass, beginner first aid, packing smart and tenting are all part of this introduction to the outdoors. This camp also helps facilitate entry into the Canoe and Kayak Centres leadership training program at age 15.

Novice and experienced sailors navigate through Toronto's waterfront and work towards their Canadian Yachting Association Basic Cruising Certification in this exciting programme. All sailing camps are offered by Queen's Quay Sailing & Powerboating. Instructors are qualified under Canadian Yachting Association standards and are trained specifically for work with children. Campers explore Toronto Harbour and experience the adventure of sailing plus make new friends. All courses encourage personal development in stimulating and safe surroundings.

Participants must have White Sail III
This four-week program builds on and refines skills learned in the White Sail programme. This advanced programme is taught to the Canadian Yachting Association Bronze Sail IV and V standards, including the use of spinnaker and trapeze. Advanced sail theory, trim techniques and racing are introduced. Participants must have obtained the White Sail III certification to enroll. Please fax a copy of White Sail III to the camp office. Space is limited.

Campers also learn water safety, packing skills, environmental awareness and weather prediction through a variety of outdoor activities and group games.

Through skill-oriented drills and instruction, ongoing counsellor feedback and evaluated game play, campers are instructed in the fundamental and intermediate skills of popular and traditional sports. Trained and qualified counsellors focus on good sportsmanship, respect and fair play as well as proper procedures for warm-ups, cool-downs and stretching. The camp encourages individual accomplishment, development in a comfortable and supportive team environment. Sports include soccer, flag football, lacrosse, floor hockey, basketball, and volleyball. Other traditional and non-traditional sports are introduced where possible.

All the world's a stage! Created for campers who love being in the spotlight, TheatreKids explores the world of theatre in a relaxed, hands-on environment. Working together with the Director, campers learn aspects of performance and theatre production while rehearsing and preparing for their own show, to be presented to family members and friends at the end of the session! Special guests are brought in when available to showcase aspects of drama or stage production. No agents or casting calls necessary, just lots of fun!
