Come here, my little chick-a-dee.

July 20, 2012

Look up. Look way up. See that disk on the ceiling? It’s your smoke detector. You don’t think about it too much. It’s like–there. You know a green light is a good sign and you make sure it’s functioning once or twice a year. But other than that? Yet our smoke detectors are one of the most important, fundamental aspects to good home safety. But design-wise? Functionality has always won out.

Until now.

After winning a design competition in the Netherlands, the Chick-a-dee Detector appeals to a feeling of safety and comfort, while it’s functionality serves to protect lives, a combination that makes the Chick-a-Dee a wonderful gift of caring for a nursery or to celebrate a new home.

Based upon the American Black-capped Chickadee, at the smallest threat, the bird calls chick-a-dee-dee, and in more serious circumstances, the call becomes a loud dee-dee-dee sound, and as soon as smoke is detected, a 85 db alarm signal is activated.

The alarm signals when the battery is dead by playing the alarm signal. Under normal conditions, a control light flashes once a minute. The Chick-a-Dee can be tested by pressing the test button and equipped with a 1.5 year battery lifetime and a three-year warranty. The batteries are easy to replace.

Plus, it so cute!
