Paul Greenhalgh is internationally renowned as an historian of art and design and the decorative arts. He is currently Director of the Sainsbury Centre for the Visual Arts in the UK, one of the country’s principal institutions for the study and display of art. Prior to this, he was Director or a senior figure in a number of institutions around the world, including the V&A (London), and the Corcoran Gallery of Art (Washington DC). From 2001 to 2006 he was in Canada as President of NSCAD University. Since returning to Europe in 2010, he has also been invited major institutions and by government to perform a number of national roles. He has lectured all over the world and published numerous books and articles. He was born in Lancashire, Northern England, and now lives in England.

Fair World: A History of World’s Fairs and Expositions from London to Shanghai 1851-2010, is the second volume on this theme by Paul Greenhalgh, and is the most comprehensive history of Expos so far written. The great Expositions were the most heavily attended events of any kind in history, and are among the most dramatic manifestations of civilization. An exploration not just of the cultural impact of these extraordinary displays, but also of their political, social and economic impact, Fair World is a vital text for anyone interested in the unfolding of civilization in the modern age. The book deals in detail with Canada’s proud contribution to this history.

Harbourfront Centre inspires people to engage with ideas expressed by today’s craft designers and artists. We advocate collaboration between craft, design and art and actively engage the disciplines in mutual exhibition and event opportunities.

Originally from Austin Texas, Peter Ivy moved to Rhode Island at age 20, where he received his BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. In the following years he apprenticed in the Seattle area and was fortunate enough to work with prominent makers such as David Levi, Dante Marioni, Josiah McElheny, and about 10 other studios. In 1998 he returned to the Boston area to teach at R.I.S.D. and Massachusetts College of Art. Interested in exploring new interests, he then moved to Japan where he became an Associate Professor at Aichi University of Education as the Head of the Glass program. Currently located in Toyama, Japan, Peter is concentrating on making wares for daily use in his own studio Ryudou Kenkyusho which roughly translates as “Flow Laboratory.”

Andrea Kott graduated from Sheridan Institute: Craft and Design majoring in Glass. She makes sculptural and functional work that explores themes of childhood, innocence, and memory as an elusive marker of defining moments. She is curious about the connections between the ephemeral and tangible things that define us. Kott was accepted into Harbourfront Centre’s artist-in-residency programme and awarded a scholarship in 2012.
