Dance at Harbourfront Centre

Contemporary dance is one of the core elements of Harbourfront Centre programming, as evidenced by the Fleck Dance Theatre (formerly the Premiere Dance Theatre), constructed in 1983 — the first stage in Canada to be built specifically for dance. Today dance is a component of many different programmes on all of our stages.

Local and Canadian dance has exploded with rich and varied expressions found in Toronto. These and other Canadian artists are featured in the NextSteps series hosted annually on Harbourfront Centre stages. Complementing NextSteps are cutting-edge companies, both local and international, which are featured as part of the annual World Stage international performance series.

Community dance companies, both Canadian and international, are a frequent component of the summer Hot Spot Summer weekend festival series. In addition, dance performances are included in many of our family events, including HarbourKIDS weekend festivals.
