Harbourfront Centre's mission is to be a vibrant home for the culture of our time, inspiring people through the magic of the creative spirit.
"I was very moved by the number of collectives / ensembles working here..... This really is the next wave of theatre making."
Mark Valdez, National Coordinator
Network of Ensemble Theatres
One of the Centre's key goals is to encourage individual creativity through presenting some of today's most innovative artists. Exhibitions, performances, festivals, interactive events, educational forums and more present the best in international cultural innovation from across Canada and around the world. Bringing the best in global arts and culture to Canada inspires our own artists and patrons and places the wealth of Canadian creative accomplishment within an international context. The Centre is committed to the presentation of the new, the fresh, the innovative in the world of culture in order to encourage new thinking and perception.
We nurture creativity and innovation through:
- Initiating large scale international projects such as World Stage international performances, the International Festival of Authors, Today's Japan, SuperDanish, ongoing international exhibitions, World Routes summer cultural festivals and more.
- Providing creative incubators for emerging artists with established projects including: The Craft Studio Artist-in-Residence programme; HATCH emerging performance projects; and Fresh Ground new works, national arts commissioning programme.
- Presenting the best in young Canadian talent, in all disciplines, through the ongoing exhibition and performance series, while showcasing the best artists from around the world, in all art forms, to engage with and inspire our home grown talent.
