Jeanne Bellavance Textile Artist, Professional Embroiderer
Montréal, QC
October 27 – 31 Responding to a resurgence of hand stitching techniques, most notably embroidery, Bellavance will teach a week long master class, concentrating on numerous embroidery techniques and highlight Luneville embroidery. "Raised by a mother who thrived on needlework, I naturally became interested in playing with threads. Apprenticeships with both Cretan and Cree women confirmed my attraction to materials and ornamentation, and lead me to study professional embroidery in Parisian haute couture workshops. Since then, I have conceived and produced work for fashion, costume and interior designers as well as for collectors, exploring a variety of techniques and styles along the way. My most recent work emphasizes the sculptural dimension of embroidery, and particularly the way in which light enhances the materials’ translucent quality."
— Jeanne Bellavance
