Regardless of culture or ethnicity, "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" is a story that every child learns growing up; it is a simple reminder to respect the truth. While there are truths that have no grey areas, there are always perceived truths worthy of further discussion. How cultures are celebrated in Canada is perhaps one area that warrants a refreshing perspective.
If diversity is one of the important core values in Canada, celebrations like Lunar New Year should be like a kaleidoscope that reflects various cultures in an inclusive vision. More importantly, a new Canadian tradition will be cultivated in the process. Year of the Sheep is the perfect time to see if Canadians prefer to see the cracks or the ensemble of the mosaic. Are we herding or being herded?
