Season's Greetings from AUTHORS!

With a great start to our AUTHORS season this September and successful runs for both the IFOA and our touring programme, IFOA Ontario, the AUTHORS team takes an extended hot chocolate break to recuperate and continue our 38th season. In the New Year you can look forward to spending more time with us as our AUTHORS events continue on Wednesday, February 15, 2012.

In the meantime, if you'd like to stay in the literary loop or are looking for a great holiday gift, check out the Authors at Harbourfront Centre Book Club, happening on the 3rd Wednesday of every month through to May. Joining the club provides you with a one-year complimentary AUTHORS membership, which includes free access to weekly events and ticket discounts for IFOA.

AUTHORS welcomes A. Charles Baillie
to Board of Directors

Authors at Harbourfront Centre (AUTHORS) is pleased to announce the appointment of A. Charles Baillie as the new President of the Authors Board of Directors. Baillie is the former Chairman and CEO of TD Bank Financial Group and currently serves as the founding Chair of AIMCo (Alberta Investment Management Corporation). He is a director of Canadian National Railway Company, George Weston Limited and TELUS Corporation.

A. Charles Baillie, incoming President of the AUTHORS Board of Directors said: "I am delighted to be involved with an organization that attracts the finest authors of contemporary literature to a Canadian stage. Avie has masterfully led the Board into an era of impressive expansion and I look forward to assuming the reins as AUTHORS enters a new and exciting chapter."

As an active member of the community, Baillie has held the position of Chancellor of Queen's University, President of the Art Gallery of Ontario, Chair of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives, Campaign Chair of the Shaw Festival, Campaign Co-Chair for the Nature Conservancy, and was the Chair of the United Way of Greater Toronto Campaign 2000. In 2006, he was made an Officer of the Order of Canada.

Baillie replaces Avie Bennett who has been with the Board of Directors since 2003. Bennett, who is a long-standing member of the publishing world as the one-time owner of McClelland & Stewart Ltd., will remain on the Board of Directors as a chair emeritus.

"Taking on the role of the AUTHORS Board for the past nine years has been both challenging and rewarding. I am proud to be part of the process that has seen the Festival grow, both in size and in scope over those years, and I am confident Charlie Baillie will not only continue this process, but find new ways to reach and serve our diverse audience," said Bennett.
