Ladies of Hip-Hop Festival (LOHHF) provides girls and women space to learn and share their voices through hip-hop arts. Traditionally, men have dominated all facets of the hip-hop scene, but LOHHF changes this tradition and puts girls and women centre stage by offering workshops, performance opportunities, international artist exchanges and public talks to educate and create the next generation of women in hip-hop. Teaching and sharing these female perspectives is essential to the growth of hip-hop culture.

Artistic Director Michele Byrd-McPhee is the founder of Ladies of Hip Hop. She has danced in music videos, battled in the club scene and traveled along as the Hip-Hop dance culture exploded onto stages, in studios and in theaters. Being one of the few women dancing alongside groups of men, she became increasingly aware of the narrow opportunities for women in Hip-Hop. Her experiences as a woman in Hip-Hop dance were the catalyst for her to create an outlet for women in Hip-Hop culture.

Co-Producer Judi Lopez is the Founder of KeepRockinYou. She is a community engager, dancer and educator for the arts in building presence in the Toronto Hip Hop community through her work with The Toronto B-Girl Movement, Manifesto Community Projects, Unity Charity, and Breakin’ Convention.
