Joining the Team

Individuals interested in becoming a volunteer must be able to commit to a minimum of 4 shifts as a trial period, which may be adjusted to fit your schedule.

If you would like to become a volunteer, please contact the volunteer recruitment line at 416.952.3625 to schedule an interview. Interviews last approximately 1 hour and include an orientation to the volunteer programme followed by a tour of the facility. Interviews are generally scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays of the week from 10am to 5pm, but these times may be adjusted to fit your schedule.

New Volunteers

All new volunteers must be interviewed prior to commencing their first shift, fill out a registration form and read and sign the volunteer contract.

Seasonal Volunteer Programme

There is a no minimum time commitment for seasonal volunteers. All seasonal volunteers (those volunteers who have been interviewed and have participated in at least one event) are invited to call the volunteer coordinator to sign-up for events they are interested in. Once seasonal volunteers are registered with the volunteer programme they are responsible for signing-up with the volunteer coordinator for any shifts that they are interested in by checking the website or calling the volunteer office directly.

Benefits

  • 2 TTC tickets or 1 discounted parking pass (valid at specified Harbourfront Centre parking lots) per shift.
  • Record of hours and/or reference letter indicating length of service, hours donated, events/progammes participated in and position or duties performed.

Core Volunteer Programme

Core Volunteers are a group of dedicated individuals who donate a minimum of 80-100 hours throughout the year in support of a wide variety of programmes at Harbourfront Centre. Core volunteers have an opportunity to attend core meetings (held every two months) which offers them first chance to sign-up for all events and ongoing programmes prior to seasonal or new volunteers.

Benefits

  • 2 TTC tickets or 1 discounted parking pass (valid at specified Harbourfront Centre parking lots) per shift.
  • Dated Photo ID badge (valid for one fiscal year) which gives the following benefits:
    • Opportunity for 5 Minute Complimentary Tickets on a year-round basis to most Harbourfront Centre produced events.
    • Toronto Attractions & Attractions Ontario Reciprocal Programme (admission discounts to numerous attractions).
    • Staff discount at Bounty: Contemporary Canadian Craft Shop.
  • Harbourfront Centre Newsletter which invites the volunteer to:
    • The Core Meetings, enabling volunteers to sign-up for upcoming programmes prior to the seasonal volunteers and the public.
  • Invitation to Annual Recognition Event in April.
  • Opportunity for 5 Minute Complimentary Tickets associated with a particular festival (i.e. IFOA).
  • Record of hours and/or personalized reference letter.
  • Access to the Volunteer Office which provides access to free tea, coffee & treats (when available) and use of volunteer lockers (space permitting).
