Through guided inquiry, your students will build connections to the diverse identities in Toronto and their related histories and cultures.
Your students experience life inside Toronto’s City Halls and Ontario’s Provincial Justice System discussing the three levels of government. They also have an opportunity to meet and pose questions to a judge, and discover the historical roots of these institutions on a fascinating walk through downtown Toronto. Students discuss reasons for democratic decision-making and the responsibilities of informed citizens.
Key Inquiry Question: To what extent are our lives impacted by the structure and history of our government system?
By the end of the programme, students will:
- Describe the different levels and functions of the Canadian government
- Identify and describe the significance of a variety of buildings, locations and people to the Canadian government
- Demonstrate how the government impacts our daily lives
