Grades K–3

An Ontario Premiere! When a young Innu boy returns to his childhood home for the summer holidays, he finds a culture he no longer recognizes. Worlds collide and cultures connect when Ashini’s search for his grandmother’s lost necklace transports him to 7th-century Japan, where he meets a young girl with a very special destiny. Puppetry and live music lead audiences on an intrepid journey of courage and self-discovery.

Creative Response: Following the morning performance, students will spend the afternoon exploring connections between family, culture and tradition using fibre arts techniques. These works will come together in a collaborative textile piece that shares something of personal significance from each student’s life.

Grades 1–5

Discover a secret world of adventure deep in Simon’s basement when he invites his friend Abby to battle a fire-breathing dragon. Meanwhile, back in reality, Simon’s brother Zach isn’t so keen on this fairy tale business – nor with Simon dressing up as his “true self.” Join this playful and moving search for a place where we can express who we are without judgment – and find out what we’re made of in the process. Includes a post-show Q&A.

Creative Response: In this morning workshop, students will explore texture, pattern, colour and design using a variety of painting techniques to create their own re-imagined self. This will build upon students’ ideas surrounding identity and self-expression that will be further examined in the afternoon performance.
