students explore the far reaching traditions of mask making across a variety of cultures, with a spotlight on indigenous masks of Canada. These masks provide inspiration for students to make their own unique clay sculpture.

Program Objectives
By the end of the Clay Masks program, students will:

  • Use appropriate terminology related to ceramic arts
  • Assess historic examples of masks from around the world
  • Demonstrate an ability to construct a clay mask using hand building techniques
