The roots and elements of Hip Hop are showcased through emceeing, graffiti, urban percussion and dance. Students explore the contemporary impact of Hip Hop as a tool for self expression.

Your students will learn about the rich historic and cultural roots of various dance forms, experiment with dance techniques and culminate with an expressive, collaborative dance piece

Program Objectives

By the end of the program, students will:

  • Explore the origins and growth of Hip Hop Culture
  • Describe how a culture expresses its identity through the arts (e.g., through drawing, song, dance, drama, symbolism and traditions)
  • Apply the elements of dance (space, time, force and body in dance, line and repetition in music) to create a collaborative piece
