Spring Fling celebrates the arrival of spring, a season of renewal, exuberance, awakening, revitalization and whimsy. Melting snow reveals tiny shoots of green, the quiet dead of winter disappears as songbirds, bees and butterflies return and the sun extends its journey across the sky until our days are longer than our nights. These changes in nature are reflected in our cultures and communities as we once more pack away our winter layers and venture outside, renewed and reinvigorated, to welcome spring's return.
As Harbourfront Centre celebrates its 40th spring, we explore The Big Idea: Legacy, acknowledging our past, celebrating our present and looking toward our future. Legacy is a perpetual cycle, moving us forward from yesterday into tomorrow. Spring, too, is cyclical in nature; we celebrate our wakening world filled with new life for a brief moment, before quickly growing into summer, fall and winter, until just as sure as today followed yesterday, spring arrives again. Yet spring is never quite the same way twice; last spring's sapling are this year's trees, just as today's elders were yesterday's children.
In Spring Fling, we see the past, present and future united in music, dance and hands-on activities as we explore the traditions and rituals of renewal and rebirth in cultures from around the globe while celebrating the awakening and growth of the world around us.
