Every Friday night this summer, Harbourfront Centre will pair a different foot-stomping DJ with a deliciously decadent fried food, to create a combination of tastes and sounds that represent distant lands and local terrains.
We will explore the theme of terrain by showcasing DJs and foods that speak to the idea of trans-global dialogue between music and food. Dance floors around the globe are shaking to the new era of crate-digging rock stars, and now, more than ever, we are looking to the DJ to take us on a sonic journey outside our familiar worlds. From bugs to butter, recent food trends have pushed the limits of what we consider to be acceptable fried food. Combined, these two elements will help expand on the cultural discourse being put forward by our summer programming.
Working within the curatorial framework of our weekend festivals, DJ Deep Fried Fridays will bring a collection of selectors and snacks that reflects and complements the multi-disciplinary, cross-cultural celebration happening on our site all summer long. We will explore the musical terrain being forged by DJs, turning dance floors into meeting places and how they take us all on a sonic journey.
