This year’s version of Island Soul will commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Independence of two culturally and artistically significant Caribbean island nations, Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago. While 2012 is a time to reflect on the significant artistic output from these countries, it’s also a time to look ahead. Regional artists – who reflect on the roots of cultural and artistic traditions and adapt to the ever-changing social and political conditions – are attempting to carve out new directions in their creative endeavors. Multidisciplinary artists who are fiercely independent in their thoughts and action will come to mark these shifting sensibilities.
