About Johnny Clegg:
Grammy-nominated musician Johnny Clegg is one of South Africa’s most celebrated sons. Twenty-one studio recordings and four live albums later, this singer, songwriter, dancer and musical activist's infectious crossover music - a vibrant blend of Western pop and African Zulu rhythms - exploded onto the international scene and broke through the barriers in his own country. He's recorded and toured with the inter-racial band Savuka in the racially segregated, Apartheid-era South Africa, continuing to blend African music with European influences.
Clegg has sold over five million albums worldwide. He has wowed vast audiences with his audacious live shows and won a number of national and international awards for his music and for his outspoken views on apartheid, his perspectives on migrant workers in South Africa and the general situation in the world today. Clegg and Savuka's last album, Heat, Dust and Dreams, was nominated for a Grammy Award for best album in the category of World Music.

South Africa's Johnny Clegg Band brings their audacious live show and infectious blend of Western pop and African Zulu rhythms to our Canada Day celebration!
The Johnny Clegg Band and his band have helped bridge racial and cultural divisions in South Africa and abroad. Clegg has spent most of his career ushering in a collective political consciousness amongst both white and black South Africans, beginning with the dismantling of the Apartheid system in South Africa, when the country was at a crossroads during arguably the most politically tumultuous time in the country's recent history.
