About Grey Kingdom:
Consider the tales of Spencer Burton, who writes, and sings under the moniker of Grey Kingdom. Born in Hamilton, raised miles away in Kelowna, with a hankering for travel, eating pie and hunting for edible mushrooms. Burton’s upbringings are as sincere as his demeanour.
Teenage years of strumming in the Welland, Ont. music scene would blossom his twentysomethings into constant road mileage as a member of the critically lauded Attack in Black. In 2008, Burton entered the studio with Dallas Green. He recorded backup vocals and bass on City and Colour's platinum selling album, Bring Me Your Love, and went on to tour the world with Green in support of that album.
Grey Kingdom is the culmination of it all. His debut album, Eulogy of Her and Her and Her, candidly reads as a memoir on its own. There’s brooding tales of romance, travel and loss – each texturally stripped down to a voice and a handful of instruments, while lyrically resonating with Burton’s affection for human interactions.
Burton’s sophomore album, Light I’ll Call Your Name Out “Darkness,” was released in the fall of 2012, leading to a cross-Canada tour alongside Old Man Luedecke, as well as an opening spot for City and Colour. Along with press nods from the likes of NME, Exclaim!, Alan Cross and more, the album would earn praise for Burton’s folk-inspired melodies and stripped down acoustic approach, enhanced by the addition of strings, steel guitar and haunting harmonies – the perfect backdrop to his touching tales of love and love lost.
