The New Zealand String Quartet

"A quartet to match the finest anywhere... it's hard to imagine that anyone hearing these four players would not be instantly captivated by their living, breathing musicianship." – The Australian, Sydney

The New Zealand String Quartet enjoys an international reputation for its insightful interpretations, compelling communication with audiences of all kinds, imaginative programming, and dynamic performing style. Now in its 30th season, the Quartet has a discography that spans the works of Mendelssohn, Bartók, Berg, the Brahms quartets, string quintets, and clarinet quintet (with James Campbell). Dedicated teachers as well as performers, the Quartet members are Associate Professors at the New Zealand School of Music at Victoria University, where the group has been Quartet-in-Residence since 1991. They also enjoy giving master classes worldwide and run a bi-annual summer school for chamber music in Nelson. In 2016 the New Zealand String Quartet was excited to welcome its new, award-winning second violinist, Monique Lapins.
