Kongero is a Swedish vocal group consisting of the four female folk music singers Lotta Andersson, Emma Björling, Anna Larsson and Anna Wikénius. The quartet was formed in 2005 when the original members, attending a Nordic folk music conference, by chance they started singing together and found that their voices and harmonies blended perfectly. Since then they have performed at major folk music scenes and festivals and at several a cappella and chamber music festivals, and have toured in Europe, Asia and the Americas.
Kongero's repertoire consists of traditional and original songs and tunes arranged by the members. Their singing tells life's tales, whether in moving love songs, dramatic medieval ballads, witty ditties, or spirited dances. Their music is characterized by tight harmonies, infectious rhythms, and the clarity of their beautiful voices. With confidence, technical skill, irresistible playfulness and brilliant arrangements, they create a unique sound that brings the traditional music from the past and into the present. They call their unique genre "Swedish Folk'appella."
Kongero has released four full-length albums. Om Mikaelidagen (2008),Bakvända Världen (2011), no. 3 (2014), and Kom (2017), followed by an extensive release tour. Their albums have received excellent reviews in Swedish music magazines and newspapers and have reached a broad audience in the Nordic countries, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Great Britain, Canada, Brazil, Japan and the USA. In 2015 Kongero celebrated its 10th anniversary with numerous events, including the release of a Kongero Beer and Kongero Song Book No. 1. Kongero Song Book No. 2 will appear in 2018, as well as a collaboration album with the Swedish instrumental band Massivet.
