Opening Reception
Friday, January 27, 6–10pm, Free

Join us for the official opening reception of our winter exhibitions! Enjoy a cash bar and snacks while you mingle with artists and Harbourfront Centre curators.

Our five upcoming winter exhibitions address aspects of work and include a co-production with Istituto Italiano di Cultura, Toronto and Triennale di Milano. Curated by Milan-based architect, designer and artist Alessandro Guerriero, Workwear re-imagines common uniforms through the work of 40 artists, designers and architects. Tong Yan Gaai is a record of Morris Lum’s journey across Canada with a large-format camera on a search for cultural memory and Chinese identity. The Essentials is a group exhibition devoted to the jewellery we wear daily. In the exhibition, Everyday Lighting, led by designer Katharine Tessier, Craft & Design Studio Artists-in-Residence explore illumination for practical use. The group exhibition Workaday sheds light on the process of creation, by presenting works in various media alongside the tools used to make them.

Workwear, Workaday, The Essentials, and Everyday Lighting are part of the Toronto Design Offsite Festival (January 16-22, 2017).
