The Peacock’s Tale

Ola Volo

July 1–November 11, 2018

Canadian artist Ola Volo transforms the World Café building into an elaborate, dynamic mural—a new Harbourfront Centre commission for the summer of 2018. Her work has a distinctive style drawn from history, multiculturalism and folklore, including her own Kazakhstan heritage. For this mural, she brings architecture, flora and fauna together to articulate diverse stories that are rich with symbolism. Her intricate work is widely recognized for its inventiveness—every character is full of spirited personality. Volo creates winding narratives that acknowledge the complexity of human nature while highlighting the simple moments of everyday life.

Ola Volo received her BFA from Emily Carr University and is based in Vancouver. She has painted murals across the world including Vancouver, Montréal, Portland, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Mexico and Toronto.
