Craft at Harbourfront Centre is a dynamic axis for contemporary craft in Canada and an integral part of the country’s largest public, multi-disciplinary arts complex. We inspire people to engage with the ideas being expressed by today’s craft artists.

To find out more about the Craft Department at Harbourfront Centre, please view the video below. You will see artists at work in our four studios: textiles, glass, ceramics and jewellery, and listen to them talk about their experiences as artists-in-residence.

This video was originally made for the 2009 Cheongju International Craft Biennale, in Cheongju, South Korea. Directed by Joel Roff.

Operating in full view of the public from February to December, the Craft Studio is a unique Canadian institution that assists emerging craftspeople to establish professional careers while at the same time exposing the public to the world of contemporary craft. These two goals are accomplished through residencies, exhibitions, workshops, lectures and craft courses.

Artist-in-Residence Programme

If you have recently graduated from a recognized craft, design or art college/university and are interested in pursuing a full-time career in craft, you should consider an artists residency in the Craft Studio.

The Craft Studio residency programme acts as a stepping stone between school and a professional career. It is designed to assist and promote emerging, professional craftspeople by providing time, facilities, professional development programmes and resources to create and develop work.

Full-time openings in Hot-glass, Metal, Ceramics and Textiles. Summer openings in Metal, Textiles and Glass when space permits.
