Visual Arts and Craft at Harbourfront Centre
Visual arts and Craft expressions pervade the 10 acre Harbourfront Centre site and its cultural programming.
The Power Plant is Canada's largest non-collecting contemporary art gallery with several exhibitions each year of work by contemporary Canadian and international artists.
York Quay Centre embraces many varied and intriguing exhibition spaces and hangings. These include curated shows which are part of World Routes or other site-wide festivals, photographic exhibitions by local and international photographers, curated exhibitions of contemporary craft by both international and local artists, installations, and contemporary architectural exhibitions in the recently added architecture space.
The Craft Studio features working artists in metalworking, ceramics, glass and textiles. Residencies in these studios are awarded to artisans to help bridge the gap between educational training and setting up their own business. Some of the Residents have work featured in Bounty – Contemporary Craft & Design, the shop located in York Quay Centre, which also presents exhibitions of craft and design from around the world.
Arts and Craft exhibitions are a frequently featured as part of may of the site-wide festivals which take place at Harbourfront Centre, including World Routes, KUUMBA and HarbourKIDS. Outdoors the Harbourfront Centre site is animated by Artists' Gardens, contemporary reflections on what constitutes a garden as conceived by artists from many different backgrounds.
