Body Brake
Body Brake is a coproduction between Anandam Dancetheatre and Theatre Passe Muraille. It debuted in the winter of 2014 and has been a sold out success from the start. It currently has four editions and is a featured part of Theatre Passe Muraille’s late night programming. It is curated by Anandam’s artistic director Brandy Leary, whose diverse and broadly spanning artistic practice has taken her around the world performing, collaborating and teaching.

Anandam Dancetheatre
Anandam creates live performances that explore the body as a curious and shifting filter for diverse viewpoints and practices. Performances are created from dissonant sources in often alternative spaces or re-visioned traditional ones, collaboration among artists is post disciplinary and the aesthetic interest is polyculutral. Their work is specifically fascinated by the present moment as an exchange and collaboration between people in a performative and social context. To Anandam, this present-ness is energetic, transmissive, shamanistic, philosophic, embodied, simple and clear. Through their works this primary interest takes many forms of large and small, public and private but has at its root, and as a priority, an interest in intimacy, the body and the environment.

A late night event that usually takes place at Theatre Passe Muraille, Body Brake combines the energy of a rock concert to an evening of dance and freely and irreverently mixes popular, classical, contemporary and post contemporary styles into a large performance party with DJs and dancing. Body Brake 4.5 Special Edition is produced in partnership with Anandam Dancetheatre and curated by Brandy Leary. The event will feature DJ Lucie Tic.
