Choreographer Allison Toffan and Toronto Jazz Orchestra Artistic Director Josh Grossman present an enthralling evening of big band interpreted through dance that highlights the musicianship of tap today. Emmy Award-winning Ted Louis Levy directs the production, and acclaimed choreographer Lisa La Touche, direct from New York, also joins the team.
Ted Louis Levy, well-known for his collaborations with Gregory Hines and George C. Wolfe (Jelly’s Last Jam, Bring In Da Noise, Bring In Da Funk!) and his directorial début for Savion Glover's Dancing Under The Stars, is one of America’s most celebrated dancers. His involvement with the Revue is a testament to the extraordinary skill of the newest generation of Canadian tap artists.
Repertoire ranges from the classic swing of Count Basie to the contemporary sounds of Thad Jones, even veering as far out as Outkast and Radiohead. The evening also includes the fully orchestrated premiere of Transference, with original choreography by Toffan and original composition by Grossman. Together with an ensemble of some of Canada’s finest tap dancers, these artists present two memorable evenings of big band and tap!
