On the last Friday of every month at The Piston Bar (937 Bloor Street West in Toronto) there's a little Shindig going down! Shindig is Toronto's only all-vinyl party dedicated to the sounds of 1950s and 1960s R&B, soul and early rock n' roll on seven-inch 45 RPM records.
In March 2011, DJs Splattermonkey, Double K (Parkdale Funk) and General Eclectic came together to create a party that showcases the sounds of an era when American blues started to get noticed by a white audience and gave birth to rock n' roll. That sweet spot, from 1957 to 1967, when analogue recording techniques were evolving to create an electrifying sound that influenced all popular music that followed. It's got that swingin' beat alongside a hardcore DIY attitude that led to the breakdown of colour/race barriers that were plaguing the United States – the sound that brought black and white kids together in unity.
Come down and shake a tail feather to the sounds of '50s and '60s R&B with the all-vinyl Shindig crew. Expect to hear everything from Chuck Berry and Little Richard to The Beatles and The Who.
Featuring special guest DJ Misty Rock n' Roll.
