For more than 30 years, the Writers’ Trust of Canada’s Margaret Laurence Lecture Series has invited Canada’s most prominent authors to discuss the theme of “A Writer’s Life.” Intimate in tone, frank, and revealing, the lectures give us unprecedented access to the heroes and heroines of Canadian literature. This year’s lecture will be delivered by Tomson Highway, a renowned playwright, novelist, and musician, and a trailblazer in the Indigenous creative artist community.

Grada Kilomba will engage in lively conversation with The Power Plant’s Director, Gaëtane Verna, about her career as a writer and artist and Secrets to Tell, her exhibition at The Power Plant. In a co-presentation with the Black Artists' Network Dialogue (B.A.N.D.), we will also screen the North American debut of the first entry in Kilomba's ILLUSIONS film series during this program. B.A.N.D. is dedicated to supporting, documenting and showcasing the artistic and cultural contributions of Black artists and cultural workers in Canada and internationally, connecting Black culture to communities to inspire, enlighten and educate through the arts.
