Ivana Dizdar is a Toronto-based artist and curator. She recently presented a solo project at the European Centre for Culture and Debate in Belgrade and received a Toronto Friends of the Visual Arts Support Award for her latest curatorial project at 8-11 Gallery, which she co-directed from 2015 to 2017. Dizdar will discuss Ydessa Hendelesí exhibition The Millinerís Daughter.

Sangele Traditional Head-wrap Workshop

Learn the creative art and cultural traditions of SANGELE, traditional African head-wraps in this workshop led by Sani Abu Mohammed of ijovudu Dance Company. In the African continent head-wraps have many different styles, materials and tying techniques and are a symbol of beautification for any special occasion.

Power Kids: Family Trees

Ydessa Hendelesí The Millinerís Daughter, includes a photograph of the artist at age six, taken by her father soon after her family immigrated to Canada. Inspired by the artistís story of migration, this program will reflect your familyís growth. Each participant, working closely with their adult companions, will create a colourful tree structure that will grow and change as they learn about their family members. After choosing what kind of tree your family might resemble, use wire and wood to build the main structure and add small leaves or fruits to represent family members.
