The Canadian Writers’ Summit (#CWS2018) is a super-conference jointly hosted by a cohort of Canadian writer organizations. Members of all of these organizations are especially encouraged to attend, but #CWS2018 welcomes everyone and anyone interested in writing and publishing in Canada. Presented by the Book and Periodical Council and Humber College in association with IFOA, the Book Summit opens the first day of the #CWS2018. #CWS2018 takes place June 14–17, 2018.

Tomson Highway: The Margaret Laurence Lecture

For more than 30 years, the Writers’ Trust of Canada’s Margaret Laurence Lecture Series has invited Canada’s most prominent authors to discuss the theme of “A Writer’s Life.” Intimate in tone, frank, and revealing, the lectures give us unprecedented access to the heroes and heroines of Canadian literature. This year’s lecture will be delivered by Tomson Highway, a renowned playwright, novelist, and musician, and a trailblazer in the Indigenous creative artist community.

Virginia Pésémapéo Bordeleau will discuss the recent surge of francophone Indigenous writers in Québec; she’ll explore their writing, and the critical responses to it. She’ll also share with us her own work in the form of literary fiction and poetry.
