All I Ever Wanted | Gale Allen and The All Girl Squadron
March 27-28, 2009
A performance that mixes flavours of burlesque, reality tv and machismo stunt to confront the lack of the female body in contemporary shock and stunt culture. Named after a 1940s comic strip featuring one of the first female action protagonists — Gale Allen — a space adventurer, who led her all girl "girl squadron" on wild outings across the universe, The All Girl Squadron is an ongoing body of work that seeks to develop new aesthetic hybrids that simultaneously stimulate thought and entertain audiences. Armed with the aesthetics and politics of the original burlesque The All Girl Squadron challenges the conventions of popular entertainment. All I Ever Wanted is an entertaining whimsical performance that breaks down the barriers of gender and privilege providing a space in which anyone can participate as an active agent in the creation of rambunctious entertainment.
