Yun Lin is a teacher, enthusiast and advocate of paper sculpturing. Paper sculpturing utilizes the versatile characteristics of paper that other materials could not have to highlight the figures’ softness and lightness. From plain, unfolded paper, the artist presents various facets of a wedding. Imagination makes wonders. In the first collection, the artist attempts to invite audience to rejoice together at the joyous moments of wedding ceremonies, especially those of the traditional Taiwanese rituals. Furthermore, two Taiwanese aboriginal tribes’ wedding ceremonies on exhibition illustrate their people’s respect for nature and their rich cultural history. Lastly, 20 doll sized wedding gowns made of paper are also on display. The artist will also conduct DIY workshops, an opportunity for participants to learn this craft.
As a kid, Yun Lin often helped her sisters with their various art projects and thus generated great interests in handicraft. She was later inspired by a friend to get into flower arrangement and then turned to the creation of paper sculpturing. She started by making Japanese paper dolls, but later switched to depicting Taiwanese folk stories. Her work has been exhibited at International Paperart Exhibition as well as the 2008 tour of Taiwanese American Heritage Week.
