They Call Me Chief - Film and Q&A with Director Don Marks
August 16, 2009
Documentary, 47 minutes
Written and directed by Don Marks
Hockey is synonymous with Canada, a fixture in every community, yet few of the many talented Native players have made it to the NHL. They Call Me Chief is a fascinating, fast-paced journey down the hockey trail from remote reserves to the NHL Hall of Fame. Through interviews and archival footage writer/director Don Marks (Indian Time and Man Alive) brings to life the story behind some great moments in hockey history.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Don Marks and hockey players featured in the film including the first Native hockey player to play in the NHL, Fred Sasakamoose.
Preceded by the Bravo!FACT short:

Director/Producer: Christopher Markowsky
Singer Donna Kay walks the concrete streets of Calgary, shooting photos of Natives who once lived on that land, but who are now just spirits.
