Artistic Director’s statement
"All of the guest artists in this new production became involved with Arabesque because of great mutual admiration inspiring a strong desire to work together and share in an artistic adventure. Both the audio and visual experience in Noor will be a departure for Arabesque and a great challenge for all participating.
Arabesque dancer artists have been training in Debke with Kranti, exercising footwork instead of the usual belly work they are used to. Of course, beloved bellydance will still be part of the repertoire with new exciting choreographies and two remounts; Ikaa and Coffee Shop. I am very excited to perform a duet with flamenco dance artist Valeria Scannura, pairing the soft, undulating nuances of bellydance with foot stopping, fierceness of flamenco.
The orchestra has more than doubled in number, adding male and female back-up vocals to accompany Bassam Bishara. A four piece violin section led by Fathi Al Jarrah and the flamenco guitar styling of Roger Scannura will help to bring the Andalusian music alive. The number one piece of recorded music used by today’s bellydancers all over the world called Yearnings features beautiful violin phrases played by Fathi. In Noor, this piece will be played live for the first time ever."
