About the company:
Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre is a repertory company founded by artistic director Deborah Lundmark and managing director Michael deConinck Smith in 1980 to present gifted next-generation artists in professional productions. Since 2000, CCDT has conducted over 100 Ontario Community Residencies, engaging 160,000 students and teachers with main stage productions expressly crafted for young audiences. Other presentation highlights include an appearance at the Toronto’s Princess of Wales Theatre for the Creative Trust Gala, tours to Singapore, Malaysia and China, two appearances at Dancers for Life and five invitations to the Canada Dance Festival in Ottawa.
About the artistic director:
Deborah Lundmark, founding artistic director and resident choreographer of CCDT, has created more than 50 works for her company. These include collaborations with Danny Grossman, Holly Small, Toronto Children’s Chorus and Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra. From Street Songs (1981) to Dancing Day (1989) and Precipice (2010), Deborah has impressed audiences and critics alike with her ability to nurture young dancers’ natural joy in movement without sacrificing the technical precision expected of professionals. Touring with CCDT, Deborah has shared her work with audiences, teachers and students of dance from Barrie to Beijing.
This programme features six contemporary dance works including two premieres by 2012 resident guest artist Sylvie Bouchard and artistic director Deborah Lundmark. Remounts selected from the company's 120-dance repertoire will complete the production.
From Barrie to Beijing, CCDT has astonished audiences with audacious dance by some of the continent’s most exciting choreographers. Arena resounds with dynamic drama, sure to entrance every age and taste.
This is a family-friendly performance.
