Seven days after her father passes away, May returns to her hometown, a small countryside village in the middle of Taiwan. There, May is first confronted with the locals’ plain and sincere emotions as well as their ignorance and superstitions. Then, in the midst of myriad intricate religious rites, May realizes that remembrance of and mourning for her father comes second in the tedium and vulgarity of a traditional Taiwanese funeral. It is only when May returns to the city does true sadness for the loss of her father well up in May’s heart.
