About Canadian Children's Opera Company (CCOC):
The CCOC is a world-class ensemble that introduces the magic of opera to children and youth through professional musical and dramatic education, and the performance of established and newly commissioned operatic and choral repertoire. The CCOC was founded in 1968 specifically to provide a stable source of child singers for productions of the Canadian Opera Company. It remains the only permanent children's opera company in Canada that regularly commissions and produces operas for children.
Produced by the Canadian Children's Opera Company (CCOC), in association with Luminato, Laura's Cow: The Legend of Laura Secord is a musical extravaganza about the War of 1812's most famous story. After overhearing billeted American officers discussing a surprise attack, Laura Secord, the wife of a wounded Canadian militiaman, undertakes a grueling trek through enemy-occupied territory to warn the British garrison at Beaver Dams, disguising her journey’s true intent by travelling with her cow. Guest artists include baritones John Fanning and Andrew Love and mezzo-soprano Marta Herman. Special appearance by students of the First Nations School of Toronto. Music by Errol Gay with words by Michael Patrick Albano.
