Anke Djé, Anke Bé: Diasporic African Drumming

July 15, 2012

Dance Music Learning

Barry Hibbert is a Toronto-based drummer, instructor and facilitator specializing in traditional West African rhythms. Along with a dynamic ensemble of musicians, he'll present an energetic programme called "Anke djé, Anke bé" infusing traditional drumming and dance from Guinea. According to the Bamana people in Mali, the name and purpose of the djembe comes from the saying "Anke djé, anke bé" which means "everyone gather together in peace."
