Sampradaya Dance Creations is a Mississauga-based professional dance company. Sampradaya Dance Creations specializes in the creation and production of classical and contemporary dance works rooted in the tradition of bharatanatyam, a South Asian dance form. Founded in 1990 by Lata Pada, renowned dancer, choreographer and recipient of the Order of Canada and Pravasi Bharatiya Samman, the company continues to inspire audiences with annual productions produced locally and internationally, while nurturing the talents of emerging dancers.
Lata Pada, C.M., is the founder and artistic director of Sampradaya Dance Creations, an award-winning professional dance company recognized for its innovation and excellence in dance. Originally from India, Lata has made Canada her home for the past 47 years. She has had an extensive career as a bharatanatyam soloist and holds a master's degree in dance from York University. In January 2009, Lata was conferred the Order of Canada and has the distinction of being the first South Asian artist to receive this prestigious honour. In January 2011, Lata was conferred the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman by the President of India, the highest civilian honour for non-resident Indians. Recently, Lata was awarded the Chalmers Foundation Senior Fellowship to research the Ramayan performance traditions.
